About Us
Rooted in Kern County Since 1945: 80 Years of Expert Tree Care
From a local 1945 startup to a trusted name for families and corporations, the Lopez family and our trained arborists are dedicated to protecting your landscape's future.
For over 75 years, General Tree Service has been more than just a tree care company. We’ve been part of the Bakersfield community’s story. Founded in 1945, we’ve grown from humble beginnings into a trusted name in professional tree care, serving both major corporate clients and private residents with the same dedication and care.
Our story began with a simple mission: to provide reliable, expert tree care that families and businesses could trust. Today, that mission continues to thrive under the Lopez family’s leadership. Whether it’s a single tree or an entire landscape, we approach every project with the same care and commitment as if it were our own.
At General Tree Service, we don’t just care for trees. We care for the people and communities they belong to. It’s this dedication that has kept us rooted in Kern County while branching out to serve clients across the nation.
In 1945, Mortimer and Frances Lopez began a legacy in Kern County that would span generations.
Starting with two employees, they built General Tree Service from the ground up, guided by a deep respect for trees and the values of honesty, respect, and hard work.
Today, that legacy lives on under the leadership of their son, Conway Lopez. We remain a family-owned and operated business, deeply committed to treating every customer like family. From the smallest pruning job to the largest tree relocation project, we take pride in upholding the values that Mortimer and Frances instilled in us.
